The Reasoning & Rehabilitation Programs
The Reasoning & Rehabilitation Programs
The R&R program was based on an analysis of more than 100 rigorously evaluated offender rehabilitation programs. The programs involved as many as 2,000 offenders with follow-up periods as long as 3 to 15 years after training.
R&R is a thirty-five two hour sessions. The program can be taught in 14 weeks.
Guided by additional research conducted since R&R was created, the Cognitive Centre developed shorter, specialized R&R2 programs tailored to the needs of youths or adults whose antisocial behaviour has led to their coming under the supervision of social service agencies, probation or prisons.
R&R2 for Youths (12-16) is an 18 hour, 12 session program. Each session requires 90 mintues of training. By delivering 3 sessions per week, the program can be taught in 4 weeks.
R&R2 for Adults (16 and above) is a 14 session program. The 90 minutes sessions can be delivered in as little as 5 weeks (3 sessions a week) but we recommend delivering 2 sessions a week thus requiring 7 weeks of training.
Reasoning & Rehabilitation programs are not only among the most widely disseminated, but also the most frequently evaluated rehabilitation programs. Their efficacy in reducing recidivism has been demonstrated in more than sixty international evaluations, in meta-analyses, and in cost-benefit analyses.
Reasoning & Rehabilitation programs train participants in essential social cognitive skills and values.
This section describes the R&R teaching model, program delivery, and the training available for trainers.
