The Reasoning & Rehabilitation Programs
The Reasoning & Rehabilitation Programs
The primary vehicle for teaaching the skills is small group discussion. The group atmosphere is thought-provoking, stimulating, lively and debate-like, but the discussions are highly structured and task-oriented.
The ideal group size for the program is 6-8 but programs can be conducted with 4 to 10 participants. Programs can be delivered in any schedule which suits the requirements of the agency. The ideal is between 2 to 4 (ninety-minute) sessions a week. Programs also involve out-of-class work by the participants who engage in individual "homework" exercises in which they practice the skills they have learned in the group sessions.
R&R programs do not require the services of highly trained mental health professionals. They can be delivered by staff whatever their professional or academic background. However, training in the delivery of the program is essential for effecctive program delivery. Training of trainers is conducted through a 3-day group Training Workshop facilitated by Cognitive Centre certified Instructors or Associates. Workshops can be conducted at the requesting agency's site for groups of 4 (minimum) to 12 (maximum) participants. Contact the Cognitive Centre for available dates.
In order for agencies to be able to train other staff in a cost-effective manner, trainers may earn certification as "R&R Instructors" to train other staff in their jurisdiction. Certification is achieved by an experienced R&R Trainer submitting videos of him/her facilitating selected sessions of the program for review by the Cognitive Centre. Cost $2,883.
R&R Associates are experienced professionals who have been appointed by the Cognitive Centre of Canada to train staff as trainers in agencies throughout the world. They do so only with the approval of the Cognitive Centre of Canada.
Workshop fee for an R&R2 Associate: $1,200 USD per diem (including travel days + travel expenses). Note: Agencies are free to include other agencies in the workshop on a fee-sharing basis in order to defray costs.
NOTE: All staff who are to be trained by an R&R Instructor or an Associate must purchase a program-specific Trainer's Kit from the Cognitive Centre of Canada except in jurisdictions which have purchased copyright.
A Trainers' Kit for each program provides materials and detailed instructions for conducting each of the sessions. Trainers can readily change the content as required to ensure that the material presented is relevant to the group and is culturally appropriate. Each program includes exercises in which individual participants practice applying the skills to their individual problems.
Note: A Trainer's Kit must be ordered for each staff member who is to be trained as a Reasoning & Rehabilitation Trainer.
Trainer's Kits provide:
1. Program Handbook - articulates the program principles and provides complete and detailed step-by-step instructions (including a model script) for Trainers to deliver the complete program.
2. PowerPoint slides for each session.
3. Participants' Workbook (reproducible by Trainers).
4. Stimulus Card - a wallet-sized card for participants that list the steps that they are trained to follow in solving problems (reproducible by Trainers).
5. Certificate of Achievement (reproducible by Trainers).
